SEMANTiCS 2019: FIZ Karlsruhe presents itself as a partner to industry and science

At the SEMANTiCS conference in Karlsruhe from 9 to 12 September, representatives from industry and science will discuss the use of semantic technologies and artificial intelligence.

Karlsruhe, Germany  ()

SEMANTiCS is one of the leading conferences in the field of semantic technologies and artificial intelligence. FIZ Karlsruhe, together with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), has succeeded in bringing this renowned international event to Karlsruhe for its 15th anniversary. A good two years of intensive planning have gone into the program, the attractiveness of which is proven by the registrations of over 400 participants from science and industry from all over the world.

Research in industry and science is generating ever larger amounts of data faster and faster. Their sheer volume and, above all, their utilization and "enhancement" into information and knowledge require a sustainable information infrastructure. In this context, FIZ Karlsruhe offers open and legally compliant platforms, software and services. In addition, it participates in the establishment of a basic service for research with methods and services for research data management - the National Research Data Infrastructure (Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur - NFDI).

Sabine Brünger-Weilandt, President & CEO of FIZ Karlsruhe: “We pursue the strategic goal of supporting the value creation process in science and innovation at all levels. Against this background, we also see ourselves as a partner to industry. The focus of the SEMANTICS 2019 is precisely tailored: knowledge graphs and semantic AI are the focus of our research activities at FIZ Karlsruhe. We are therefore particularly pleased to be able to host the 15th anniversary of this conference in Karlsruhe.”

Prof. Dr. Harald Sack, Vice President Information Service Engineering at FIZ Karlsruhe, emphasizes: “Semantic technologies today help companies intelligently discover data, derive relationships between them, and gain knowledge from huge sets of raw data in multiple formats and from multiple sources. This in turn makes it possible to access, analyze, and finally generate knowledge from meaningful and accurate data more quickly and cost-effectively.”

On the main conference days, FIZ Karlsruhe will present selected research topics and information services at its information stand in the “Gartenhalle” of Kongresszentrum Karlsruhe. The first workshop on the application of patent text mining and semantic technologies (PatentSemTech) will take place at the Leibniz Institute's own location.

FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure is a not-for-profit limited liability company. As one of the largest non-academic information infrastructure institutions in Germany, we have the public mission to provide researchers and scientists with scientific information and to develop the appropriate products and services. To this end, we edit and index large data volumes from manifold sources, develop and operate innovative information services and e-research solutions, and carry out research projects of our own. FIZ Karlsruhe is a member of the Leibniz Association which comprises 95 institutions involved in research activities and/or the development of scientific infrastructure.
