A group of organisations interested in supporting the open data agenda fund the mini-grant programme. This year the programme received 214 applications for financial assistance.
The projects helped in this way cover open mapping, equal development and open research data.
Examples of open research data projects
- Open Switch Africawill work to encourage Open Educational Resources adoption and Open Research Data in the University of Lagos in Nigeria.
- Institute for Leadership, Empowerment, and Development, Inc. will host an Open Data Day for research and academic institutions in the Philippines.
- Datos El Salvadorwill open as much data as possible from academic research, students and teachers to build the first ever open data deposit of research in El Salvador.
- Epicentro Inefable ACwill bring open data information to the university community in Mexico.
- Early Career Researchers from Mwanza, Tanzaniawill create awareness about Health Data Research in the Mwanza community.
- Open Access Nepalwill conduct Open Science and Open Research Data training for PhD students in collaboration with Nepal Health Research Council.
- Open Knowledge Ethiopiawant to promote open research data among early career researchers and open data advocates in Ethiopia.
- ODI Madrid will develop training activities about open data applied to scientific resources in Spain.
Grant money is also allocated to initiatives that want to use open data to ‘follow the money’ including ones to help improve transparency in government procurement projects in El Salvador and an exploration of the use of public money in Bangladesh.
