EU: MEPs personal email hacked

Anonymous hacker accessed email alert app.

A report by the French site Mediapart describes how easily a hacker was able to access the personal emails of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), their assistants and members of the Parliament’s IT and security services.

The anonymous hacker suggested it was easily done using "a few bits of knowledge that everyone is capable of finding on the internet".

The hacker, who said he was trying to raise awareness of the vulnerability of the security system, had located himself in a public space near the Parliament building in Strasbourg.

The IT service is investigating the claim.
