225 new biographies added to BNB

The latest edition includes biographies of people who died in 2009.


The lives of 225 men and women who died in 2009 have been added to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.  Figures added include writers such as J.G. Ballard and John Mortimer; the broadcasters Ludovic Kennedy and Clement Freud and the football manager Bobby Robson.

Contributors to the new edition of DNB include Will Self (writing on JG Ballard), Gillian Reynolds (on the Archers actor Norman Painting) and Simon Heffer (writing about Keith Waterhouse).

The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography includes the biographies of over 58,000 men and women who have shaped British history and culture.  It is published onine and in 60 print volumes.
