ResearchGate and copyright infringement

The site, used by researchers to swap papers, is accused of copyright infringement.

The International Association of Scientific, Technical, and Medical Publishers (STM), which represents 140+ STM publishers, has contacted ResearchGate about its article-sharing practices.

Although ResearchGate states on its website that its millions of members should be clear they have the right to share their articles on the site, this is clearly not stopping the sharing copyrighted materials.

Researchers recently found that 201 of 500 randomly selected articles on ResearchGate infringed on publishers’ copyright.

STM believes that ReseachGate should be working harder to prevent the sharing of copyrighted material and asks that it works more closely with STM and its members to develop better processes.
