Knowledge Unlatched: Open access monographs

Pilot collection launched; target of 200 libraries to sign up.

Knowledge Unlatched aims to create a sustainable route to Open Access for scholarly monographs. Its model depends on many libraries from around the world sharing the payment of a single ‘Title fee’ to a publisher in return for the book being made available on a Creative Commons licence via OAPEN.

Its Pilot collection includes new works from a range of scholarly publishers including Cambridge University Press, De Gruyter and Rutgers University Press.  If 200 libraries sign up before the end of January 2014, 28 new books will become freely available around the world.

The project has received support from The Wellcome Library.
