Germany: copyright levy

Copyright agreement leads to increased prices for Apple mobile products.

Apple has raised the prices of its hand-held devices in Germany.

The move follows an agreement between content producers and the tech industry.  This means that content producers and others will benefit from increased copyright payments.

A similar agreement has existed in Germany for blank CDs.  By paying a small surcharge on such products, the consumer is allowed to make private copies of content.

The price increases announced by Apple mean that approximately 5 euros has been added to the price of an iPhone.
