Kudos announces Royal Society of Chemistry as inaugural sponsor of research into effect of COVID-19 on research funding and publishing

Co-operative research project provides publishers, societies and service providers with cost-effective way to gain strategic insights about the implications of COVID-19 for the sector

Oxford  ()

Kudos, the award-winning service for accelerating research impact, is pleased to announce that the Royal Society of Chemistry is the first headline sponsor to join its ‘Brave New World' research project. The study, which will take place in November and December 2020, will provide publishers, societies and providers of related services with insights and recommendations in relation to the effect of COVID-19 on research funding policy, university budgets and practices, and researchers' workload, workflows and publishing choices.

Harp Minhas, Publisher, New Business Development at the Royal Society of Chemistry, notes that: "The timelines for this project fit well with our strategy development. As a society publisher that is always focused on empowering our international publishing community to publish the most impactful research, we were quick to undertake analysis earlier in the pandemic. However, the continued pace of change means it is already necessary to update our intelligence, and the Kudos model of ‘co-operative research' across multiple partners makes it both a cost-effective and timely way to ensure we are basing our plans on the most current situation for researchers, institutions, funders and publishers."

The study is expected to provide sponsors with:

  • Insight into funder and institutional policies that will shape the sector in 2021 and beyond
  • Analysis around shifting policies and re-distribution of budgets
  • Early indications of where new capacity may be needed

Sponsor places are still available; potential project partners are invited to register their interest by contacting colin.caveney@growkudos.com.
