Material produced daily by health providers, hospital systems, foundations, patient groups, governments, and others around the world has been dispersed, difficult to cite, and at risk of disappearing. Public Health and Social Care brings it together and prevents its loss by offering daily updates, advanced search capabilities, unique identifiers, and preservation of material for future research and reference.

Coverage is comprehensive, drawn from a broad spectrum of sources including public health agencies, medical associations, hospitals, charities, agencies at various levels of government, research institutes, and other organizations across the English-speaking world—with a particular focus on vulnerable groups and diverse communities. Coverage also extends to blogs, social media, and other less formal channels.

Public Health and Social Care sets itself apart from existing resources by focusing on materials beyond traditional health databases. It includes research studies, case reports, performance data, guidelines, health education literature, policy statements, and other forms of output. The platform also stresses currency; it’s updated daily, ensuring users have access to the latest information and developments.

Toby Green, the project’s publisher said, “For the past four years, the team at Coherent has been building expertise in capturing, licensing, enriching, and delivering grey literature. It’s exciting now to focus these skills on public health and social care. We believe researchers will benefit greatly from our extensive licensing efforts, our curation experience, and the unique technology that allows us to provide these materials at scale.”

The database will allow health researchers to view practical insights, innovations, and real-world evaluations, within the most current research from around the globe, well before the materials appear in academic journals.

Public Health and Social Care will launch in Spring 2024 with 250,000 publications and is expected to grow to over 1 million by March 2025. Initially, it will cover material from more than 3,000 organizations, expanding to over 5,000. It will also include an editorially curated archive of 150,000 items related to the COVID-19 pandemic and other emergent diseases.
