Street View: Google fined in France

Google fined €100,000 in France for data protection breach.

The French data protection watchdog, the National Commission for Computing and Liberties, has fined Google €100,000 for collecting data from wireless networks.

Google's cars collected data from unencrypted wireless networks when streets and buildings were being photographed for Street view.

Google had previously admitted the problem, and apologised, saying it was caused by a programming error.
