Spotify reaches royalty agreement in US

Agreement to ensure music creators receive appropriate royalties.

Spotify’s 'unmatched works' are the musical equivalent of orphan works – music for which ownership information is missing and for which no royalties have been paid.

Now, Spotify and the (US) National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) have reached an agreement regarding royalty payments for these works.  Not only does the agreement include payment of bonus compensation, it also:

  • Provides the ability to easily identify and properly claim 'unmatched' works online
  • Ensures that Spotify will continue working with the NMPA to implement practices that will allow Spotify to match works more accurately and efficiently
  • Provides a path to direct licensing between Spotify and publishers
