Spotify in search of social

Recent acquisitions include Ireland's Soundwave.

Spotify has over 20 million paying subscribers and 75 million users around the world.  However, the music streaming business is increasingly competitive, with Apple Music growing rapidly.

With the purchase of two startups it seems that Spotify is looking to increase its sociability.

The company has bought Soundwave, a music discovery app that logs what you listen to in real-time and lets you form communities of people with similar music tastes.  The app has users in 190 countries and is available in 14 languages.

Spotify has also bought the American messaging app Cord Project, a voice messaging platform.
