OCLC's new version of the CONTENTdm digital collection management platform, which is over 20 years old, empowers libraries, archives, and museums to make their unique digital collections more visible, accessible, and connected. However, the new CONTENTdm is currently available only in the United States, although OCLC intends to roll it out to other regions in the coming months.
CONTENTdm features improved discovery experiences, richer metadata, integrated exhibits, and standards-based sharing and relies on WorldCat, linked data, metadata standards, and interoperability capabilities.
Additionally, the platform has value for staff by streamlining collection management through browser-based administration, bulk workflows, OCR, and metadata tools, thus reducing repetitive workflows and allowing more material to be processed without any additional resources..
CONTENTdm also applies OCLC’s metadata expertise through authority control, controlled vocabularies, linked data, and metadata remediation tools that help institutions create, maintain, and connect high-quality metadata across collections.
