OCLC – the last printed library catalogue card

Final print run of library catalogue cards.

It’s the end of an era.

OCLC, the global library cooperative, has printed its last library catalogue card.  The use of printed library catalogue cards has been steadily decreasing as library users have shifted their searches online.

Library collections are now searchable online, via popular search engines, and in many cases digitised collections are also available to researchers around the world.

OCLC acknowledges that the last print run of catalogue cards is 'largely symbolic' as so many libraries have already moved their catalogues online.
