OA champions: open letter to publishers

Open Access advocates believe model licenses will limit exploitation and re-use of research.

In an open letter 58 groups and bodies have called on the International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers (STM) to withdraw its model licences, which govern copyright on OA articles.  The model licenses are incompatible with Creative Commons licences.

The group of OA advocates, including Research Libraries UK, the ALA and the Wikimedia Foundation, believe that the model licences supported by the publishers will “limit the use… and exploitation of research”.
