Netherlands: new homes for Institute's collections

Part of the Royal Tropical Institute's collections will be saved.

The Royal Tropical Institute's (KIT) Information and Library Services were closed at the beginning of August 2013.  The organisational restructure came about after government funding cuts.

New homes have been sought for the library's collections and some parts of the collection have been saved.

  • The Institute's pre-1950 collection is to be relocated to Leiden University
  • The Medical History Institute (Urk) and the Peace Palace will also take some relevant works

However, up to 700,000 works are still at risk of being dumped.
