IOP Publishing to expand double-blind peer review

Following a successful pilot project, IOP Publishing is planning to expand its programme of double-blind peer reviewing.

In ‘conventional’ single-blind reviewing, the reviewer knows the author’s identity. However, double-blind reviewing means neither author or review know the other’s identity.

IOP piloted double-blind reviewing in 2017 on two journals: Materials Research Express (MRX) and Biomedical Physics & Engineering Express (BPEX). Take-up and feedback were positive – the average satisfaction score from authors was 9.5 out of 10.

The double-blind review option will now be a permanent feature on MRX and BPEX and will be offered on new journals in the publisher’s Express series of journals.
