Glasgow School of Art fire: library destroyed

Iconic building in Scotland damaged by fire.

A fire, believed to have started in a basement, has swept through the iconic Charles Rennie Macintosh building – home of the Glasgow School of Art.

A massive operation by Fire and Rescue services, resulting in 90% of the building remaining intact, has been praised.

It was revealed that the School's iconic art nouveau library has been lost, although the school’s archives had not been damaged.

UK government bodies have pledged to contribute to the restoration.
