Germany: new traffic lights for smartphone zombies

New design aims to make lights visible to people who are looking down.

A town in Bavaria has installed a new form of traffic lights designed to stop smartphone zombies (smombies) from walking into oncoming traffic.

Smombies are people so engrossed with their devices that they fail to notice what is going on around them, whether it’s traffic, lampposts or real people in the real world.

Officials in Augsburg have designed and installed flashing red lights into the pavement.  They are designed to be seen by pedestrians who are looking down at their smartphones.
