Germany: ebook news

Latest figures report slow but steady growth.

Ebook sales in Germany continue to grow and now account for 4.3% of all book sales.  Sales are generating just under €25m.  However the rate of growth is slowing down.

On average ebook consumers are buying just over six ebooks each per year and the average price they are paying is just over €7.

In other German ebook news, there have been interesting discussions about whether a ‘curfew’ on the sale of adult-content e-books will be enforced by German regulators.  It seems likely that rather than restrict the hours in which such content can be sold, ebook retailers will be able to roll out existing practices, such as age verification.
