Funding bodies around the world publish open letter in support of ORCID

Funders announce support of the use of ORCID identifiers in the grant application and reporting process.

ORCID provides a unique identifier that individuals can use with their name as they engage in research and innovation activities.  This means that researchers are connected to their contributions across disciplines, borders and time.

Nine funding bodies from across the world have signed an open letter in support of ORCID and the use of ORCID Identifiers (iDs) in grant application and reporting workflows.

The initial institutional signatories are:

  • Austrian Science Fund (FWF)
  • National Research Foundation, South Africa
  • Howard Hughes Medical Institute, US
  • Wellcome Trust, UK
  • Research Council of Norway
  • CAPES, Brazil
  • The Royal Society, UK
  • UK Research and Innovation
  • Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF)

The open letter can be read here.
