Facebook: large scale suspension of apps

Tens of thousands of apps and hundreds of developers affected.


This update comes 18 months after the fallout from the Cambridge Analytica scandal saw Facebook announcing an investigation into the way personal data is accessed and used by third party developers. Cambridge Analytica took data without people’s permission. Facebook said that as many as 87 million users’ information could have been retrieved.

Recently unsealed documents show that Facebook has suspended 69,000 apps. Most were terminated because the developers did not cooperate with Facebook’s investigation. 10,000 were flagged for potentially misappropriating personal data from Facebook users.
