European Commission and Amazon reach ebook agreement

Concessions will apply for five years.

The agreement by Amazon to alter elements of its ebook contracts with publishers brings an end to an EU antitrust investigation.

Amazon is the biggest ebook distributor in Europe. The agreement means it has agreed to drop clauses requiring publishers to give it terms as good as those for rivals.

The EU competition chief said she believed the decision would encourage more innovation in the European ebook market.
