Europe: Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs

A major European initiative sets out to bridge the digital skills gap.

The number of digital jobs in Europe is growing by 100,000 per year.  It is expected there will be approximately 900,000 ICT-related vacancies in Europe by 2015.

The EC's Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs, which has been announced this week, attempts to help bridge the skills gap, help some of Europe's 26 million unemployed people into work and support digital businesses.

The Commission has sought pledges from organisations to address:

  • Training and matching for digital jobs
  • Mobility
  • Certification
  • Awareness raising about the opportunities of the digital sector
  • Innovative learning and teaching
