BL bids to aquire earliest intact European book

The British Library wants to acquire the 7th century St Cuthbert Gospel for the nation.

The St Cuthbert Gospel was created in the north of England in the 7th century.  It is considered to be one of the world's most significant books.

The British Library (BL) has already secured grants from the National Heritage Memorial Fund (£4.5m) and other bodies, but £2.75m is still required to secure the Gospel.

For more information on the Gospel and the campaign, see the British Library Press Release.
