BBC launches new audio app

New app is the latest step in 90 years of audio curated by the BBC.

BBC Sounds is a new iOS and Android app that will eventually replace the BBC’s iPlayer Radio service.  All the BBC's local and national stations are available through BBC Sounds.  Like the iPlayer Radio, BBC Sounds is a hybrid radio and podcast player. But it also provides additional ways to surface content via ‘Collections’ and categories.

The app tracks listener habits and make suggestions via ‘Recommended for you’.  Users can bookmark BBC-produced shows and clips and create a personalised feed called ‘my list’. The app is a more user-centric approach to programming and distribution.

BBC Sounds is funded by the licence fee, so is free to use.
