Following the discovery of a rare map in a German University Library, a previously unknown Vivaldi opera score has been discovered in a library archive in Italy.
The previously unknown, earlier version of Vivaldi's opera Orlando Furioso is said to date from 1714. The music was discovered in the Vivaldi collection at the Biblioteca Nazionale and had previously been catalogued as a later revision of the opera by a different composer.
The score was identified by Federico Maria Sardelli, a Vivaldi scholar.
