French authors and publishers disagree over e-books

French authors and publishers have failed to reach an agreement regarding electronic rights.

The hope had been that an agreement would have been reached ahead of the opening of the Paris Book Fair, but this seems unlikely to happen.

Although some compromises have been reached, The Bookseller is reporting that the two sides are in ‘total disagreement' over e-book contracts, conditions and payment terms.  Frédéric Mitterrand, the French culture minister, may now intercede in the negotiations.
