Shanghai academic rankings revealed.


Shanghai’s 2016 Academic ranking of universities sees no changes in the institutions appearing in the top 10.  Eight of the top ten are in the US and the universities of Oxford and Cambridge take the last two top ten places.  Harvard takes the top spot for the 14th year running.

Universities around the world are ranked on six criteria including numbers of award winning staff members and alumni and the number of articles published in Nature and Science.

ETH Zurich, in 19th position, is the highest ranking university from continental Europe.  Denmark’s University of Copenhagen is 31st and Pierre and Marie Curie takes 39th place.

For the first time since the rankings were launched in 2013, two Asian institutions have been ranked in the top 100 – Tsinghua University in China took 58th position and the National University of Singapore was ranked at 83.
