This week MySpace announced it had managed to delete twelve years’ worth of music from its archives (ouch).
The Internet Archive is working hard to make sure that the shuttering of Google+ does not result in a similar loss.
The initiative hopes to capture and cache public-facing content (the process will not include private content or content that has already been deleted). Neither will it include all comments.
Account holders who do not want their content archived can delete their accounts or make specific requests for removal.
Google plans to start deleting consumer data in April 2019.
