The newly-launched online Platform for Responsible Editorial Policies (PREP) facilitates the transparent review and research into peer-review procedures at 401 (and growing) journals. PREP is funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development and conducted in collaboration between Radboud University’s Institute for Science in Society and Leiden University’s Centre for Science and Technology Studies.
PREP offers
- A database documenting journals’ current editorial procedures.
- A simple questionnaire that allows editors to characterize their current procedures and that allows us to provide suggestions for potential improvements.
- An overview of current review procedures and knowledge about their strengths and weaknesses.
- Suggestions on how to improve the transparency of editorial policies.
The database can be searched by journal name, ISSN, publisher, level of anonymity, reviewer anonymity, timing and accessiility.
PREP also invites editors to become transparent by sharing information about their publication and details related initiatives.
