German officials have claimed that China has targeted at least 10,000 people by using fake LinkedIn profiles.
The fake profiles include people claiming to represent think tanks and headhunting agencies. They are offering all-expenses trips to China and expressing an interest in exchanging information. Those targeted include lawmakers and government employees.
The German government says that China is increasing its efforts to steal trade secrets and other sensitive information from European targets.
