New Twitter guidelines for news broadcasters

News broadcasters continue to evolve their social media policies as they attempt to maintain a 'joined up' news service.

The BBC has updated part of its social media policy, and informed journalists that they are not to break news stories via Twitter alone.  Written news copy must be filed simultaneously to broadcasting via the social network so that the BBC can ensure its staff are kept up to speed with breaking news.

Sky News has also released updated guidelines to its tweeters.  Its journalists are no longer able to retweet information from non-Sky colleagues.  Such information, which will not have been subject to standard editorial processes, may be incorrect.
