UK: search figures for December 2012

The latest figures show growth in search engines, but a decline in Google's market share.


Experian Hitwise data for the UK search market reveal:

  • A 17% year on year increase in visits to search engines in December 2012 (2.7 billion visits made)
  • Google's market share dropping to 88% (lowest for five years)
  • A 30% year on year increase in visits to UK retail sites in December 2012
  • 107 million visits to retail websites on Christmas Day - the most popular site was Amazon
  • Paid search impressions increased by 18% during the Christmas period
