UK: pilot project sees lawyers fighting cybercrime

Fraud costs the UK nearly £200 billion per year.

City of London police plan to work with law firms to target cyber criminals and fraudsters.

The scheme will see the police passing details of suspects to lawyers, who will pursue suspects through civil court proceedings to seize money.  Civil proceedings are quicker than criminal cases – and the burden of proof is lower.

There were 5.8 million cases of cybercrime in the UK in the past year.
