UK: Rare manuscripts saved for the nation

The British Library has acquired two rare manuscripts.

The BL has acquired The Catholicon Anglicum, a 15th-century Middle English-Latin dictionary and a traictise annotated by John Ponet which documents the argument between the two Bishops over the right of priests to marry.

The works had previously been subject to a temporary export ban and have now been added to the national collection.  Both works will be made available on the British Library’s Digitised Manuscripts website and will be displayed at the BL later in 2014
