UK: Google faces mass legal action

A group called Google You Owe Us is taking action in the UK courts.

The action claims that in 2011 and 2012 Google unlawfully harvested information from over 5 million UK apple iPhone users.  Google used cookies to collect information from devices in order to deliver targeted ads.

The action is being led by Richard Lloyd, formerly of Which?  The case is likely to be heard in the High Court in 2018.  Google has responded by saying they have defended similar claims and calls on the case to be brought to California. Google paid a fine of over $20m dollars when the US Federal Trade Commission brought a case against them on the same issue in 2012.
