Twitter wants to trademark subtweet

Twitter has moved to protect the word subtweet, even though it didn't actually coin the term.

A subtweet is the Twitter equivalent of talking about someone behind their backs.  It involves users talking or making comments about other people without using their Twitter handles.  Subtweeting is an example of users finding new, often unexpected, ways of using social media infrastructure.

Twitter’s move is probably a reaction to the fact that the concept of subtweeting is beginning to spread to other social networks.
