The European Commission and net neutrality

European Parliament Industry Committee wants tougher rules.

The European Parliament's Industry Committee (ITRE) is seeking to put pressures on law makers to introduce tougher rules in favour of net neutrality.  The resolution asks the European Commission to assess the need for further legislative action.

The resolution includes the statement that net neutrality is a "significant prerequisite for enabling an innovative Internet ecosystem."  However the resolution does not press for sanctions against internet service providers that restrict access to the internet.

The ITRE committee text will be voted on in November.
