Norway to digitise Nigerian literature

One step towards an African digital library.

The National Library of Norway has said it will help digitise part of the National Library of Nigeria’s literature collection. The costs of the project will be shared. The library in Nigeria will collect the works and the Norwegian library will carry out the digitisation. The costs of transportation will be covered by the Norwegian embassy in Nigeria.

The organisers hope that their approach will act as a model for other countries to help create an "African digital library".

In 2014 The National Library of Norway announced it was making virtually all Norwegian literature published before 2001 online and available free of charge. This digitisation project is expected to be completed this year.
