Netherlands: new e-book lending system

Dutch library users can now borrow up to 5000 books via their tablets, mobiles, computers or e-reader.

The new system means that participating publishers receive a payment for each borrowed e-book, with higher fees paid for newer books.

Libraries in the Netherlands released an app in 2013 which allowed library users to download up to 55 books to read during the summer holidays. The app was downloaded more than half a million times.
