Le Carré's gift to the Bodleian Library

The literary archive of John le Carre, author of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and more than 20 other novels, has been gifted to Oxford's Bodleian Library.

The bequest includes the working papers and manuscripts of John le Carré (the nom de plume for David Cornwell).  The archive includes working versions of manuscripts and captures some of the editorial and thought processes behind the development of his fiction (le Carre's first drafts are hand-written).

Further artefacts are expected to be gifted in the future, including family papers and correspondence.
