Library and repository staff from 144 UK higher education institutions responded to a JISC funded survey into the progress of electronic thesis deposit. 81% of the organisations surveyed will be providing open access to doctoral theses within the next five years.
50% of the responding institutions have their own institutional repository and others are planning or developing one.
High visibility of doctoral theses benefits researchers and universities and contributes to knowledge sharing.
