Google and EC 'reach antitrust understanding'

Formal announcement on long running dispute expected soon.

According to a report in the Financial Times, and reported here by GigaOm, Google is about to reach a deal with the European Commission over antitrust allegations.

The EC had questioned four aspects of Google's business practices:

  • Was Google favouring its own products in search results?
  • Was Google reproducing content without permission?
  • Was Google using its market position to tell advertisers not to use other providers?
  • Was Google ‘locking in' advertisers?

Google is thought to have offered to make 'significant changes to its business practices' although no details have emerged as yet.
