Germany to return stolen books to Italy

Munich to return €2.5M books to Naples.

The books, stolen from the Girolamini Library in Naples, were originally confiscated from an auction house in 2012.  The former director of the library has already been sent to prison for the thefts.  The auction house which had been handling the sale of the books has been exonerated.

The library has now been able to prove its ownership of 543 books seized.  The rare works, which mostly date from the 16th and 17th centuries, can now be returned to Naples.
