Germany: 60% of YouTube music videos 'blocked'

No resolution in ongoing dispute between YouTube and Germany's music rights body.

New figures suggest that YouTube's ongoing dispute with GEMA, Germany's music rights authority, has resulted in 61.5% of YouTube's top 1000 videos being blocked to German users.

The figures emerged with the development of an app by Berlin data journalists OpenDataCity.

The dispute dates back to 2009.  GEMA is asking for a fee each time a video is played, while YouTube is offering GEMA a share of advertising revenue.
