GDPR: first lawsuits land

Big companies accused of breaking the new law.

GDPR is now in effect across the EU. It provides a new legal data protection framework for the collection and processing of personal information.

Complaints have been filed against Facebook, Google, Instagram and WhatsApp in Austria, Belgium, France and Germany. The complaints claim the companies are ‘forcing’ users to consent to targeted advertising.

The Austrian privacy advocate Max Schrems (noyb.eu) claims that the companies have adopted a “take it or leave it approach".
