France: early works in BnF to be digitised

70,000 volumes to be digitised in ProQuest's Early European Books programme.


ProQuest is to digitise 70,000 historical volumes held by the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF).  The works were all printed before 1700. 

BnF becomes the fifth major library to participate in ProQuest's Early European Books programme, joining the Danish Royal Library, the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze, the National Library of the Netherlands and the Wellcome Library in London. 

The BnF's collection includes many rare texts acrsoos a range of subets, from early editions of poetry to first editions of major scientific works.
