EU: record fine for Google

$2.7 billion for antitrust misdeeds.


After a seven-year investigation, the European Commission has confirmed is has fined Google €2.42 billion (the equivalent of $2.72 billion) for breaking Europe’s antitrust rules.

The findings state that Google abused its dominant position in the search marketplace to promote its own shopping services in its search results, demoting those of competitors and denying consumers "a genuine choice of services and the full benefits of innovation".
