Austria: National Library historic books digitised

Collaboration with Europeana and Google.

The historic book collection of Austria’s National Library (Österreichische Nationalbibliothek), is to be made freely available via Europeana.eu.

The collection includes texts by Martin Luther and the collection of Prince Eugene of Savoy.

The collection of historic books from the 16th to the 19th century is being digitised as part of the Google Books project.  The first 150,000 are now available online.

Europeana has introduced a new right label (label 'Out of copyright – non-commercial re-use' (OOC-NC) which means that books that out of copyright books that have been digitised through public-private partnerships are clearly marked as being freely available to the public for non-commercial re-use for a limited time and available for unrestricted re-use after that period.
